Review: Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF35

I’m going to state right from the beginning of this post that I absolutely love this BB cream and I will continue to buy it because that is just how much I love it!

Best Primer and best bb cream in nigeria

I’ve been curious about BB creams but I never really got one for myself because they usually come in just a few shades and these shades are usually too light for me. By the time darker shades were being introduced, I had lost interest. I decided to go out and look for one for two reasons. First is that I need to cut down the time I spend getting ready for work every morning  like I said in this post and secondly because I got posted to a new job location at work which means I’ll be getting a lot more sun that I have been getting. As much as we love the sun because it helps plants grow, it is important to protect your skin from sun damage on a daily basis.
So why is a BB cream the answer to my skin’s needs? The Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF35 claims to “prime, perfect, protect, hydrate and control oil all in a single step”! You get 30ML product in a tube packaging which I quite like. It never gets messy and the product does not get exposed to light and air. I got the shade Dark which is the darkest shade and the best match for me. I believe it would be fine for skin tones much darker than mine. I have yellow undertones so the shade seems slightly red on the back of my hand but on my face it blends in nicely.
I use a lot of the product because I’m trying to get the sun protection benefits and also because the colour coverage is so light. The quantity of BB cream is about the same amount as my foundations but I will probably use this up quicker. It is also the only BB cream I own so I do not alternate. I use at least two pea-sized amounts.  If you want better coverage or you want to wear alone, it would be better to apply with a brush. It has a dewy finish but it can be worn under another foundation or powder. I find that it helps my powder stay in place longer than when I apply it on its own. You will get better coverage doing this and in my experience it really helps to control oil.
Smashbox is known for their wide range of primers so I’m not surprised that this BB cream does a good job as a primer as well. As for the other claims, they are true too. The cream is an effective moisturiser and also contains antioxidants including vitamin E and a very high SPF 35. The only thing I’m not sure about is that it “visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just 4 weeks.” As far as I know, there is nothing in this cream that can treat wrinkles.
I definitely think this BB cream is pricey at N13,500. I bought mine at The Nail Studio in Lagos. However, it is totally worth it in my opinion because you get the benefits of moisturiser, primer, sunscreen and a light coverage foundation all at once. I believe Elizabeth Arden and MAC have slightly cheaper and effective BB creams so I may explore that in the future. Do you use any BB creams or this one? Would love to hear your experiences.

    1. Hi Naomi, Sorry I don't know where you can order it in Nigeria. I went to The Nail Studio to get it. I really wish they had a website for people to order. Their address is 9 Bishop Aboyade Cole, VI and phone number +2347098120606

  4. Have you tried their foundation? I've heard amazing things about it, especially regarding its staying power. Maybe I'll try this one out instead of the BlackUp CC cream.
    Lovely post!
