Review: Body Lotions that Double as Sunscreen

Cookie Skin Dermal Repair Brightening Lotion Review

The sun is the number one cause of external ageing therefore sunscreen is important to reduce its impact on the skin's appearance. In addition, wearing sunscreen reduces the risk of skin cancer and this is true even for darker skin tones. I know it can be a bit clumsy in the mornings if you need an extra step in your routine to apply sunscreen so I'm reviewing some wonderful body lotions with sunscreen in them that I have used.

CookieSkin Dermal Repair Brightening Body Lotion SPF 20

If you haven't heard of CookieSkin, it's a Nigerian cosmetic brand.Their Dermal Repair Brightening Body Lotion gives just enough sun protection as it has an SPF over 15. It doesn't spread easily but does the job as a moisturiser. It may not however be best for dry skin types or for use during the Harmattan months. The glycolic acid in it acts as an exfoliant removing dull, dead skin and revealing healthier, glowing skin over time. If you have dull skin, you should try this but as mentioned earlier it's not the best option for dry skin. It costs about N7,000 and many pharmacies and beauty shops in Nigeria carry this product including Casabella, Medplus and Invivo.

Vaseline Healthy Even Tone Body Lotion SPF 10

This is better suited to low humidity weather experienced during Harmathan as it also contains Vaseline jelly. With  SPF 10 you will surely be protected from incidental sun exposure like walking to your car but not so much for extended exposure. The formula also includes Vitamin B3,  an antioxidant that enhances skin elasticity, tone and texture. This honestly nourishes and moisturises the skin but this lotion is not recommended for treating hyperpigmentation. You can find it easily in the personal care aisle of most supermarkets. I got mine from CCD Superstores in Lagos for N1,500. You can buy it online here.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E SPF 15

For those looking for moisture, this is the best of the three! I love this because it's quite thick and the sunscreen does not overpower the lotion. It is also enriched with vitamin E so you also get a good antioxidant to nourish your skin. I advise that you check to see if you like the fragrance before buying because it has a strong cocoa butter scent. Definitely one to pick up for the coming Harmathan. I got mine from Boots (not available at the moment) but I've seen it at Ebeano Supermarket.

Hope you found this post helpful. I'd love to hear your thoughts and also recommendations for good body lotions with sunscreen that are not mentioned here.
